Kemetic Suns: Project Ambershine

King Koncepts, Karma Chi, Kirby Dominant, and the rest of the Fundamentals shine bright on this record, released about five years prior to this review. The production is very ethereal, and with such originality these songs are put together to create a very distinct, innovative sound that stretches the boundaries a bit, as far as beat making and traditional hip-hop is concerned. Don't get me wrong though, there aren't any strange rhythm patterns or strange eastern drums that dominate and depart from fine fat beats that bounce body and head. Just a very developed and diverse way of bringing many eclectic elements together to form fresh tracks.

King Koncepts does the majority of the vocal work throughout the album, but on several songs other cats make an appearance, and even Murs from the Living Legends drops in for a fresh verse on a cut before a beat that has no lyrics on top, but is smothered with a deep, enchanting piano sample and drum track that is so fresh it nearly brings tears to my eyes everytime I listen to it. I guess some beats are two hype to hinder with raps or singing.

The next song is called Present Tense, and it's fresh. The soft guitar and chimes send shivers to the spine, and reminds that "the time is here," with wise words from Koncepts. This is one of the tracks with such a potent vibe and feeling emanating from the words and music. This song is drenched in nothing but creativity, talent, and ambersun-sound that provides an ultra unique and deeply touching mood...very, very chill.

The last song on the album is titled, El Cantante. It has this guitar sample put with a fresh beat and bassline that could probably be one of the most emotion evoking, artistically and innovatively produced tracks in the history of hip-hop. ( I know it sounds like such an outlandish thing to say, but really, it's just an outlandishly good album. Koncepts comes correct over this beat with a very fluid flow of knowledge dropped from begining to end. "Fuk material wealth, we're going out for the glory."

We and Dem is a cut with a chorus from Bob Marley's Uprising album that touches the topic of police brutality and the all around ridiculous state of power abuse and conformity throughout the continents. The second track Remember is also one of the ultrahype songs that should be considered one of the best cuts an an album with really great cuts that span the entire record. These are just a few one this record that really stick with me. Each song is in it's own is very fresh.

Koncepts, I believe is an emcee slash producer who resides in two major cities. Traveleing back and forth from New York to San Fransisco he soaks in the cross coast perspective and delivers for us all on this album. The production is very good, the words are very good, and therefore so is the album.. Enjoy. Three thumbs up... an underground classic. BTW, Check out the other Kemetic/Fundamentals Releases. 30 days and a plane ticket, Stop the world, the Patternfall wars, Kirby's Solo Rapitalism, and The Koncepts/Dominant compilation called Savage Intelligence. These artists make good art....notthesame
