erwähnte fuessgaenger9 den namen joe rath in zusammen- hang mit
motionrecordings und the
mole. hier nun ein review zu seinem album "he meant well" und
ein kleines interview, um ihn auch als person vorzustellen. joe rath,
wohnhaft in clifton, new jersey, usa (population (year 2000):
78,672, males: 37,560 (47.7%), females: 41,112 (52.3%)), hat seit dem jahr 2000 acht
alben heraus- gebracht, dazu einige spokenwords und sonstige lyrische
ergüsse.
ehm, zuerst das interview:

these guys over here call me Joseph - i'm of legal age - live in a
pleasant home
in Clifton, New Jersey - and I'm currently unemployed.
2. what do you know about switzerland?
I know only what I've seen in pictures - and I really want to go there
someday. It looks worry-free and utopian, which is good for a guy
like myself. I wish I knew more, but I'm not as smart or cultured
as I pretend to be - for example: I have no idea what "utopian"
means.
3. what do you know about the USA?
I know america isn't behaving the way its supposed to - but I know
there is still a mystique to america that lies behind the chaos,
corruption, and evil. For those who don't live in america, you
just gotta trust me on that.

6. why do you rap, make music?
I rap because it's easy for me to do - and I make music because I have
too much time on my hands and need to feel productive.

dogs - cats are too elitist.

caffeine-free diet coke
10. hiphop?
Yeah, I don't know either. I still think of bunnies.
11. whom you'd like to work together
with?
Anyone who shares my musical ethics and vision - and who works
quick. And of course, they can't suck.
12. girlfriend? if yes: does she
like your music?
No girlfriend - but many failing flings. I get quite a selection
of reactions when they hear my music. Everything from leaving
voicemails that mock my choruses to near-orgasms. Go figure.
13. reasonable reason to kill
somebody
someone doesn't say "thank you" to a waitress.
14. anything to tell us?
I left my keys on your dresser - oh, and spread the gospel about my
music so I don't have to be unemployed anymore. And be
polite. And thanks for the obvious help you've given so far.

zum album:
he meant well ist sein
zweitletztes und sein 7. album insgesamt. für die beats auf dem album
sind folgende menschen verantwortlich: alas, rorschach, poor richard
und joe rath selbst. Produzenten, von denen man in zukunft wohl noch
hören wird, alas' albümmer expressions und this.stlye.color dürften
vielleicht einigen von euch schon bekannt sein. schöne klavier-,
gitarren- orgelsamples werden von simplen aber guten drums begleitet.
die beats sind weder experimentell noch besonders innovativ. es sind
einfach gute beats. teils erinnern sie an beats
aus dem clotheshorse umfeld, teils an peanuts&corn.
joe's stimme ist sehr
angenehm zum zuhören, seine raps sind simpel und verständlich, keine zu
komplexe und unverständliche texte. das album als ganzes wirkt sehr
melancholisch und traurig. geschichten über die hoffnungslosigkeit der
in den usa wohl sehr grauen alltage, frustration über die
aussichtslosigkeit die welt zu einerm besseren ort machen zu wollen. so
entsteht schöne musik. aber die
geschichten, die er erzählt sind dennoch nicht langweilig oder extrem
depressiv stimmend, sondern gespickt mit witz und wortspielereien,
gedanken und erlebnissen aus seinem leben.

sich so richtig hineinfühlen
kann, es ist eines meiner lieblingsalben.ich sage immer ein album ist
dann wirklich gut wenn man es mehrmals durchhören kann ohne zu zappen.
und das kann ich bei diesem album. kommt nicht bei vielen alben vor.
die stimmung die joe mit seinen raps vermittelt wird von den beats sehr
schön
unterstützt und intensiviert. ein glas whisky, bisschen deprostimmung
und
dieses album können einen einsamen verregneten sonntag abend retten.
nicht die
welt aber immerhin ein paar stunden in (m)einem leben.
joe rath ist einer von vielen
talentierten, hierzulande grösstenteils unbekannten mc's. jedoch
geniessen er und andere mc's wie zum beispiel thesis sahib, nomar
slevik, jd walker usw. grossen respekt im tiefen untergrund.
