Interview with Babelfishh, Winter 2009

Hi!
Please introduce yourself.

Babel Fishh The Triple Barrel Shotgun

Where did you grow up?

Born in Redwood City California.
Raised in Hollister CA for the middle bulk of it. It was far from spring break city but there was plenty of knifes just like anywhere else. Then to the south bay area and up to Santa Rosa.  After that the baby’s brain hatched in
Houston Texas.

What's the most special happening or experience you remember from your childhood?

I don’t think I will ever forget accidentally splitting my head open with a hammer. My father thought I got shot there was so much blood.

Did this experience have any influence on your life ?

Well you can still see the claw marks from the hammer on the top of my skull. I remember I was wearing this amazing tank top with a lion screen printed on it and it was covered in blood.

When did you start making music?

I think I hit the junior rap circuit around 1997, cassette tape songs will always tell an interesting story.

What kind of people do you think is listening to your music?

Probably people with a long attention span or people with none at all.

Do you buy mp3s? why/why not?

It might be nice to have the mp3’s ready for vinyl I buy but I don’t really have interest in buying just the mp3’s of anything. Its kind of bull sauce to me… once kids start downloading t-shirts the touring band is dead.

Do people like your music better, when they get to know you personally?

There are a lot of hidden meanings in my lyrics at times; friends tend to catch those before strangers do.

Are your close friends afraid of your music or your person since they've been listening to it or do they still see you the same way ?

You should see the meth head fucks at work when they first hear my stuff. I try to keep quiet about all that but if they hear something their attitude towards me changes. I recorded a conversation I had with one of them and its become part of a song for this new e.p…. in the conversation the guy talks about 4 days meth binges and stomping his ex wife’s head into the ground and not remembering it.
To see people on Methamphetamine is one of the scariest things on the planet.

What’s the most scariest thing you ever saw ?

A sixteen year old kid with a gun in my cheast. - After a long day of working in the old factory doesnt a man have the right to enjoy an incident free night at a mexican ice house(pub)? Well, I was walking to one in my neighborhood around 9:00pm after work and thease two young kids creeped up on me on there fucking bmx bikes. There is no way they where older than 16. they both had pistols...It was almost funny how scared they were, but then i thought to myself that these just might be the young fucks that will blast you. They got my money but I still made to the cantina!

And the most beautiful one ?

Candlestick park 1992. - Candlestick is where the San Francisco Giants use to play. I grew up with my uncle and grandpa screaming at the t.v. watching giants games. So I have always been a big fan myself. Memories of baseball through a childs eye will always be a piece of something pure to me.

Any collaborations we can look forward to ?

The album I recorded with Oskar Ohlson last summer should be mentioned here.

With which artist you know you'll never be going to record an album would you like to do so?

Muslimgauze

what are you interested in?

John Cougar at 3 in mourning!

authors / books you wouldn't mind if your close friends or hillary clinton would read them?

Bill Daniel

Two persons you'd love to see fighting each other ?

Rupert Murdock versus Queen Latifah.fuck it
They can rumble in a huge bucket of KFC chicken legs while a WalMart Christmas shopping crowd watches.

Into which section of a record store are you heading first?

The used country vinyl would be first. Then onto hiphop or grindcore depending on what store.

What’s the fascination about used country vinyl records?

So many of those songs where only released on vinyl. All the singles can be found on greatest hits collections but a lot of the other songs are bangers.

have your grand parents been athletics some years ago?

Great follow up question….

Haha yes, true  :)
I don’t have a real athletic family. I had a grandfather who won the metal of honor in the U.S. Navy and another grandfather bust his ass at Schlage lock for 45 fucking years to get by.
Both grandmothers where pure inspirations of grace.

What requires an interesting, good rap record? Any example?

Just takes a tough guy or a funny guy or a little of both.

So there must be hundreds of good rap records out there… ?

Yeah the mid 90’s  bay area gangster records alone.

Favourite season of the year? why?

Fall and winter can be prime. I also like summer because im thinking about winter when im writing and recording.

Sarcasm and irony...
Yes (laughs). As serious as I am, or want to be. I never can take myself too seriously. You know, I am a very light-hearted and happy person. But I'm also very cynical. And I like to give that to you at the same time.

So do seasons have any influence on your music? What inspires you generally?

Yea weather can play a big part in everything out here but 8 months out of the year feel the same. In generally inspired by the friends kept close and the decline of everything around.

Is there something like a favourite shoe brand ?

For the last four years or so I have bought only $8 stone creek slip on’s.

Cats or dogs?

Dogs can wipe away my misery….

Thanks a whole lot...

Thank you guys for your questions and your friendship.
